National 3 National 4 National 5 Higher
Higher Applications of Maths
Welcome to Balwearie High Schools Higher Applications Page
Overview: The Higher Applications of Mathematics course builds on the skills developed in National 5 and focuses on more advanced applications of mathematics in real-world contexts. The course aims to enhance critical and logical thinking, enabling students to interpret, analyse, and appraise statistical and mathematical information, solve problems, assess risk, and make informed decisions
Course Content:
- Numerical Skills: Advanced arithmetic operations, including working with complex numbers and algebraic expressions.
- Statistical Skills: Collecting, analysing, and interpreting data using more sophisticated statistical methods.
- Financial Skills: Understanding complex financial concepts such as investments, annuities, and compound interest.
- Measurement and Geometry: Working with advanced geometric properties and measurement techniques.
- Mathematical Modelling: Applying mathematical techniques to model and solve real-world problems.
- Probability: Advanced probability concepts and their applications in various scenarios.
- Graphical Data: Creating and interpreting complex graphs and charts to represent data.
Assessment:
- Internal Assessments: Regular class tests, homework assignments, and projects.
- Final Exam: A comprehensive exam at the end of the course, covering all topics. The final exam is 2hours and 5 mins long and accounts for 65 marks of the final grade.
- Project: The project accounts for 30 marks of the final grade. Pupils will be given 8 hours of class time (plus as much of their own time) to compete the Project.
