What will I be provided with?

Each pupil will receive an Apple iPad 128GB (A16), charger plug, charging cable, protective folio case and screen protector.

Where will I collect it from?

All pupils will be allocated a time to receive their iPad in the school assembly hall and some initial training on signing into your account and usage.

Can we change the case?

No, the cases that are provided with your iPad have been specifically provided due to their durability and robustness. It is expected that iPads will need to last 4 years before they are updated. To ensure that they last as long as possible we need to make sure that they are as well protected as we can.

Will students still use laptops and PCs in class?

The iPads will, at least initially, be in addition to our current ICT provision. Over time it is expected that the number of laptops and desktop PCs in school will reduce. There are a number of departments and subjects who will retain need to retain the use of laptops and PCs due to software requirements. Any pupil who requires ICT to access to SQA exams will also need to do so on PCs or laptops. SQA do not currently support iPads for digital exams. We will continue to support these young people with the device that best fits their needs or an appropriate combination.

What if I am not in school on the allocated day?

If you are unable to attend school on the day you have been allocated to receive your iPad, catch-up sessions will be offered by the school the following week.

Can I bring in my own stylus?

You can bring in your own stylus if you choose to do so, but there is no expectation for pupils to do so. As with any personal property, you do so at your own risk.

We have also invested in some class sets, to be kept in class, of styluses for departments that will make most use of them such as Art & Design

What do I do if I have a government issued Chromebook?

During and since COVID, Scottish Government provided a very small number of Chromebooks for distribution to families who did not have access to a digital device. Should you still have a Chromebook, please return this to Mr Gorman (PSO) as the iPad will do all the tasks the Chromebook does and can also be used in class.

Why iPad?

The Fife Council Transforming Learning team carried out a range of trials, visited other authorities and explored a number of devices prior to committing to iPad as the device of choice.

Will the use of iPads in class and around the school be as heavily restricted and enforced as the current phone policy?

The iPad devices are provided to pupils for learning. There is no function to download apps that are not required for learning. The curated app store allows only pre-approved apps.
