It’s the best time for families to apply for a whole range of entitlements, so that everyone receives their money before the beginning of the new term in August. Applications opened for the Best Start Grant School Age Payment last week, offering £252.50 for each eligible child starting primary school. The school clothing grant offers a minimum payment of £120 for eligible primary age children and £150 for eligible young people at secondary school. For children in P6 and P7 and young people at secondary school, free school meals can save families over £400 per child per year, a significant saving. And finally, Education Maintenance Allowance helps over 16s with a weekly payment that can add up to £1200 across a school year.
